【摘要】:1.1Thistestmethodcovers,inapreliminaryfashion,thedifferentiationamongsimilarmaterialswithrespecttotheirresistancetotheactionofahigh-voltage,low-currentarcclosetothesurfaceofinsulation,intendingtoformaconductingpaththereinorincausingthematerialtobecomeconductingduetothelocalizedthermalandchemicaldecompositionanderosion.1.2Theusefulnessofthistestmethodisveryseverelylimitedbymanyrestrictionsandqualifications,someofwhicharedescribedinthefollowingparagraphsandinSection.Generally,thistestmethodshouldnotbeusedinmaterialspecifications.Wheneverpossible,alternativetestmethodsshouldbeused,andtheirdevelopmentisencouraged.1.3Thistestmethodwillnot,ingeneral,permitconclusionstobedrawnconcerningtherelativearcresistancerankingsofmaterialsthatmaybesubjectedtoothertypesofarcs:forexample,highvoltageathighcurrents,andlowvoltageatloworhighcurrents(promotedbysurgesorbyconductingcontaminants).1.4Thetestmethodisintended,becauseofitsconvenienceandtheshorttimerequiredfortesting,forpreliminaryscreeningofmaterial,fordetectingtheeffectsofchangesinformulation,andforqualitycontroltestingaftercorrelationhasbeenestablishedwithothertypesofsimulatedservicearctestsandfieldexperience.Becausethistestmethodisusuallyconductedundercleananddrylaboratoryconditionsrarelyencounteredinpractice,thepredictionofamaterial''srelativeperformanceintypicalapplicationsandinvarying"cleantodirty"environmentsmaybesubstantiallyaltered(Note0).Cautionisurgedagainstdrawingstrongconclusionswithoutcorroboratingsupportofsimulatedservicetestsandfieldtesting.Rather,thistestmethodisusefulforpreliminaryevaluationofchangesinstructureandcompositionwithoutthecomplicatinginfluenceofenvironmentalconditions,especiallydirtandmoisture.Bychangingsomeofthecircuitconditionsdescribedhereinithasbeenfoundpossibletorearrangemarkedlytheorderofarcresistanceofagroupoforganicinsulatingmaterialsconsistingofvulcanizedfiberandofmoldedphenolicandaminoplastics,somecontainingorganic,andsomeinorganic,filler.1.5Whilethistestmethodusesdry,uncontaminatedspecimensurfaces,TestMethodD2132,TestMethodsD2303,andTestMethodD3638employwet,contaminatedspecimensurfaces.Theiruseisrecommendedforengineeringpurposesandtoassistinestablishingsomedegreeofsignificancetothistestmethodforqualitycontrolpurposes.1.6Thistestmethodisnotapplicabletomaterialsthatdonotproduceconductivepathsundertheactionofanelectricarc,orthatmeltorformfluidresiduesthatfloatconductiveresiduesoutoftheactivetestareatherebypreventingformationofaconductivepath.1.7Thevaluesstatedininch-poundunitsaretoberegardedasthestandard.Thisstandarddoesnotpurporttoaddressallofthesafetyconcerns,ifany,associatedwithitsuse.Itistheresponsibilityoftheuserofthisstandardtoestablishappropriatesafetyandhealthpracticesanddeterminetheapplicabilityofregulatorylimitationspriortouse.Forspecificprecautionarystatements,see,,Section,and.
