【摘要】:Thereboundhardnessmethodprovidesameansforrapidclassificationofthehardnessofrockduringsitecharacterizationforengineering,design,andconstructionpurposes(seeGuideD420),geotechnicalmappingoflargeundergroundopeningsinrock(seeGuideD4879),orreportingthephysicaldescriptionofrockcore(seePracticeD4543).Thereboundhardnessnumber,Hr,canserveinavarietyofengineeringapplicationsthatrequirecharacterizationofrockmaterial.Theseapplicationsinclude,forexamples,thepredictionofpenetrationratesfortunnelboringmachines,determinationofrockqualityforconstructionpurposes,andpredictionofhydraulicerodibilityofrock.Thistestmethodisoflimiteduseonverysoftrockorveryhardrock(unconfinedcompressivestrengthslessthanapproximately1MPaorgreaterthan100MPa).Theresultsofthistestmethodarenotintendedforconversiontostrengthdatasuitablefordesign.Note18212;Severaltypesofreboundhammersarecommerciallyavailabletoaccommodatetestingofvarioussizesandtypesofconcreteconstruction(SeeTestMethodC805)androckmaterial.Note28212;Thequalityoftheresultproducedbythisstandardisdependentonthecompetenceofthepersonnelperformingit,andthesuitabilityoftheequipmentandfacilitiesused.AgenciesthatmeetthecriteriaofPracticeD3740aregenerallyconsideredcapableofcompetentandobjectivetestingandsampling.UsersofthisstandardarecautionedthatcompliancewithPracticeD3740doesnotinitselfassurereliableresults.Reliableresultsdependonmanyfactors;PracticeD3740providesameansofevaluatingsomeofthosefactors.1.1Thistestmethodcoversthetestingapparatus,sampling,testspecimenpreparation,andtestingproceduresfordeterminingthereboundhardnessnumberofrockmaterialusingaspring-drivensteelhammer,referredtovariouslyasareboundhammer,impacttesthammer,orconcretetesthammer.1.2Thistestmethodisbestsuitedforrockmaterialwithuniaxialcompressivestrengths(seeTestMethodD7012)rangingbetweenapproximately1and100MPa.1.3Theportabletestingapparatusmaybeusedinthelaboratoryorfieldtoprovideameansofrapidassessmentofrockhardnessortoserveasanindicatorofrockhardness.1.4ThevaluesstatedinSIunitsaretoberegardedasthestandard.1.5Thisstandarddoesnotpurporttoaddressallofthesafetyconcerns,ifany,associatedwithitsuse.Itistheresponsibilityoftheuserofthisstandardtoestablishappropriatesafetyandhealthpracticesanddeterminetheapplicabilityofregulatorylimitationspriortouse.
